OUR IMPACT

Art drives innovation and possibility. Artists challenge assumptions, expand imagination, and inspire new ways of thinking. Their curiosity and experimentation often fuel breakthroughs in technology, design, social change, and cultural evolution.

The creative economy supports countless livelihoods. Behind every musician is a network of producers, engineers, educators, venue staff, designers, and industry professionals. When artists thrive, entire creative ecosystems—and local economies—benefit.

Why We Need Music Creators

Art and music are essential to our lives and communities.

Artists help us make meaning. Music and art give shape to emotions, ideas, and experiences that words alone cannot hold. They help us process joy, grief, change, and uncertainty. They offer perspective, clarity, and comfort in ways nothing else can.

Creativity strengthens communities. Songs, stories, and shared creative experiences bring people together across cultures, generations, and identities. Creative expression helps build empathy, belonging, and connection. Foundations of strong, healthy communities.

Mental health is in crisis across the music ecosystem. Recent studies show that a large majority of music makers report anxiety, depression, or other mental-health challenges related to their careers. Irregular schedules, financial uncertainty, and isolation all add to the strain.

Systemic inequities shut many people out. Historically marginalized communities, including underserved youth, women, LGBTQ+ creators, and artists with disabilities, face additional barriers to access, visibility, and safety in creative spaces.

Why Creators Need Support

It’s hard to be a music creator in today’s world.

Streaming dominates, but payouts are tiny. Streaming makes up the vast majority of recorded-music revenue, yet most artists earn only fractions of a cent per stream. Even as global listening grows, the typical emerging artist struggles to turn streams into sustainable income.

Touring and live work are increasingly unstable. Touring costs are rising, smaller venues and festivals are under pressure, and many independent artists report going into debt to stay on the road. A single cancelled tour or show can derail months of planning.
