WEEK 2: Making Your Sound Stand Out: Tone, Texture & Dynamics
This session focuses on crafting a distinctive sonic identity. Participants explore layering, sound selection, and spatial techniques that make music more dynamic and compelling. Through listening exercises, demonstrations, and discussion, Chase teaches simple approaches to EQ, panning, and creating depth. Students revisit their Week 1 track to refine its sound palette and receive a Quick Mix Checklist to guide future projects.
PROGRAM OVERVIEW:
Modern Musician Lab: From Idea to Impact with Chase Jackson is a four-week series for independent producers and musicians looking to turn ideas into finished work and build a sustainable creative practice.
Week 1: Learn how to expand a simple loop into a fully structured track with practical exercises and a song structure cheat sheet.
Week 2: Explore tone, texture, and dynamics to create a distinctive sonic identity, guided by demos and a quick mix checklist.
Week 3: The Sync Mindset: Compose short, emotionally clear cues for film, TV, and games, using a sample video clip and a sync cue template.
Week 4: Build professional tools for a sustainable music career, including a producer one-sheet, workflow strategies, and final project sharing.
By the end of the series, participants will have completed one original track and one 30-second sync cue, learned repeatable workflows for finishing music, and built essential tools to share and promote their work. This lab equips musicians with the practical skills, creative confidence, and professional frameworks to turn ideas into impact.
About Chase Jackson:
Chase Jackson is a Los Angeles–based multi-instrumentalist, producer, and educatororiginally from Oakland, California. A graduate of the Oberlin Conservatory and the University of Southern California, he has collaborated with artists such as Juice WRLD, The Soweto Gospel Choir, Kiefer, and VINCINT, and composed music for major clients including Riot Games, Tencent, Netflix, and BET. His performances and productions span pop, jazz, electronic, and film music, with credits across global tours and television networks. Formerly a program director at Icon Collective College of Music, Chase has taught at USC and Grammy Camp LA, mentoring the next generation of music creators. He currently performs with the electronic-funk group Wake The Wild and continues to blend innovation, education, and artistry across his diverse body of work.
